The Farmhouse | History of Twin Oaks Farm Lodging

August 30, 2018

We recently started a series on the blog to share the history of the buildings that make up our lodging accommodations. You can read more about that here. Today we are showcasing our last lodging building, the Plantation Farmhouse -- which features our stunning bridal suite.

When you walk into the Farmhouse, the beauty can really take your breath away. This building is always the last stop when brides and grooms come to tour our venue. We feel pretty confident that it ends the tour "with a bang." This white house with wrapping verandas and a tin roof dates back to 1910 when the Pope Family resided and owned the property. In 2006-2007, our owners put a lot of love into the home, restoring its natural beauty and enhancing the character even more with complete renovations.

The original pine floors still remain in the home and were refinished. With tall ceilings (11') and mahogany-stained classic craftsman style moulding, this home is so stately on the interior.

The Farmhouse has 2 bedrooms, a living room, a library (both of which also double as bedrooms for guests), 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, and sunroom. The Farmhouse can accommodate 10 guests. Every room has exterior windows that bring in warm sunlight and picturesque views of the property. There are original fireplaces in every bedroom, the kitchen and dining room.

The Master bedroom, which we title as our formal bridal suite, was added on to the original home's footprint in a seamless manner to expand the former master suite. This allowed for a sitting area and bedroom area. The Bridal Suite bathroom features a glassed-in shower, soaking tub, and Bombay style his and hers vanities. This room gets incredible lighting, with French Doors and overhead transom leading onto the porch and french doors with transom going into the Master Bath.

Brides will never run out of beautiful picture backdrops at our Farmhouse. Not only are the rooms inside formally Southern and charmingly decorated, but the sweeping verandas on the front and back of the home see many special moments on a wedding day. Captured on these porches are many first looks, pictures with mothers and fathers, bridesmaids groups, and intimate prayers. We also host many bridesmaids luncheons on the porches too!
